Kenyans shine in Bergen.

The programme for the Bergen International Music Festival 2009 (BIMF) was finally unveiled at a concert yesterday on the 3rd of september at Bergen International Culure Centre (BIKS). The concert last night featured 3 bands. These were "Washamba Band" from Bergen, "Pentamony" from Kenya and "Hordaland 80" from Bergen. The theme for the night was Afro beat.
The kenyans who came in second after a nice performance by "Washamba" stole the show with their soft music and crooning voices. The trio, Seamus Ikonya, Benson Mutahi Githaiga and Phillip Tuju Fil-ah captured the crowd with their acapella music and dance styles. One of their songs even featured traditional "nyatiti" instrument famously used by the Luo people of kenya.

The trio are on a two week tour of Bergen and have performed in various schools around Bergen.
Tonight they will be performing at Cafe Sanaa (the heart of jazz music in Bergen) and on saturday they will be performing at Cafe Opera. Those who missed the opportunity to watch them, can see them at this two places.
The night at Biks was fantastic and electrifying and the three bands played their hearts out. Hordaland 80 band replayed some famed beats by Fela Kuti of Nigeria. They entertained the crowd with their painted faces..... it was cool to say the least.
Wazalendo kenya is proud to be one of the events organisers and was proud when the Kenyan trio performed so well.
